Bulgari - Case Study

The Company

Bulgari has been world-renowned symbol of luxury since 1884. The auspicious Italian designer of fine jewelry, watches and accessories draws inspiration from the timeless beauty of ancient Greek and Roman arts. With nearly 200 retail stores in 38 countries, its wares are sold in the world's most exclusive shopping areas.

The Challenge

In the United States, Bulgari operates several stores, all of which frequently change their retail displays. Without a comprehensive inventory system, the process of requesting, obtaining, delivering and changing displays at Bulgari stores was costly and time-consuming. Employees spent hours traveling to storage facilities, searching for displays - sometimes fruitlessly -- and, if found, delivering them back to the store.

The large, bulky and frequently fragile retail displays require considerable storage space. However, committing to long-term storage leases was inefficient for the company because its fluctuating needs often meant paying for unused space.

The Solution

GAM created a comprehensive, customized inventory management system for Bulgari that allows the retailer to efficiently request, locate, receive and store retail displays. The system is based on innovative online technology that keeps the inventory organized, indexed and up-to-date. Because each display piece is bar coded and photographed, Bulgari employees accessing the online inventory management system can accurately identify items, their location and determine their availability -- immediately. With a simple search and click, the display can be located and delivered by GAM to the proper store location.

GAM also designed a flexible storage program that enables Bulgari to seamlessly expand or reduce storage space according to its needs.

The Results

GAM's flexible storage program enabled Bulgari to cut its costs by 45 percent a year. Working with GAM experts, Bulgari was able to optimize its display storage, creating a more efficient, manageable inventory of over 500 bulky and fragile items. Bulgari employees save countless work hours locating items in storage and delivering them to the stores. Through the inventory management system, GAM has become an integral part in the delivery and timely set up of displays for Bulgari stores across the country.
